Chapter Eleven

“So, Dallas, what did you think of Tyler? He looked pretty smitten with you,” Simone said, taking a sip of her very hot coffee. She, Dallas, and Jessica had agreed to meet for breakfast at Mykonos before Dallas headed back to Chicago.

“First of all, only old ladies use the word ‘smitten,’ and as for Tyler, he’s cool. You’re right, we did hit it off.” Dallas held up a hand when she saw both Simone and Jessica open their mouths to speak. “Before you say anything, I like him, and he seems like a nice guy, but I’m not interested in anything serious.”

Simone frowned. “Well I was gonna say, give him a chance. You never know what might come of it.”

“And I was going to say, isn’t it about time you got serious with just one man?” Jessica chimed in.

“You guys, it is too early in the morning for this conversation. Can we drop it? Actually, Simone is the one who should be fielding all of the questions since she was the one out with her new man last night.”

“Okay, but first answer me this, is Tyler as cute as his big brother?” Jessica asked.

Dallas fanned herself with her hand. “Girrrl…”

Jessica and Simone laughed.

“I’ll take that as a definite yes.” Jessica added salt and pepper to her eggs and tasted them before speaking again. “Okay, Simone, your turn. Is your man a keeper?”

Simone shuffled her hash browns around on her plate and smiled. Though Tim was out of town until Monday afternoon, a moment hadn’t gone by that she didn’t think about him. He had to be the sweetest man she’d ever met. She just wished they had hooked up years ago.

“I think I’m in love.”

“Aw, I knew you guys were perfect for each other the first time I met Tim.”

Simone remembered how attentive and thoughtful he’d been the night before, and with every thought, she couldn’t help but smile. She never imagined dating could be so much fun. Being with him made her feel like a giddy teenager, crushing on her first real boyfriend.

“I think he’s good for you,” Dallas said. “And on top of that, the brother couldn’t take his eyes off of you last night. Oh, but what was up with him and Kenny? Tim looked like he wanted to kill him.”

Simone filled Dallas and Jessica in on what led to the disagreement. “When he dropped me off at home, he told me that Kenny was bad news and was notorious for manipulating people.”

“Did he say how?” Jessica asked.

Simone shook her head. “Nah, and I didn’t ask. He was agitated just telling me that much. I’m sure the topic will probably come up again at some point. My main concern was that if this short temper of his is a norm, I want to know.”

“I know that’s right,” Jessica said. “Although, I honestly can’t see him getting angry at anyone. He has such a laid-back personality.”

“Yes, he does. And he assured me that his behavior last night was not the norm.
